I started out in the 1980s doing product and corporate publicity for biomedical companies.  Over time, I moved into strategic communications and branding.  But I still write press releases as needed. 

Besides having news value, press releases need to incorporate strategic messages so that they get picked up by editors while positioning the client correctly--with impact.
